John Whippy Foundation Celebrates A Successful Rye to Hastings Charity Walk
On Saturday 9th May 2026, members and supporters of the John Whippy Foundation completed a challenging 12.3-mile charity walk from Rye Railway Station to Hastings in aid of the Children's Respite Trust.
The route took walkers on a tour around Rye, across Pett Level, past Wincelsea and through picturesque Fairlight before eventually reaching Hastings along the hilly coastal path. While the scenery was stunning, the second half of the walk proved particularly demanding, with very hilly terrain testing everybody involved. In total, participants covered more than an average 33,000 steps throughout the day.
A special mention must go to 10-year-old Esmae Banks-Whippy, daughter of Thomas Whippy, who completed the entire walk without any assistance. Not only did she successfully finish the full route, but she was also motivating the adults all the way to the finish line whilst continuing to help raise additional donations in the collection box at the same time. Well done, Esmae — an incredible achievement.
So far, the fundraiser has raised an amazing £1,088. However, donations remain open until Saturday 16th May 2026, meaning there is still time to support this fantastic cause. Whether it is a small or large donation, every contribution is greatly appreciated. All money raised will be donated to the Children's Respite Trust to help support children and families who rely on their services.
The Foundation would also like to thank Katarzyna Halka for raising an impressive £175 in just a couple of days, as well as Maria Whippy, wife of Trustee Robert Whippy, for raising £130 through a cake sale with English Languague Centre in Eastbourne.
